What’s the point

What’s the point of life, like really? If you been brought up like me your first answer would be, to glorify God. Like me you might say this without thinking, and you’d say it instantly. Problem is do we live it?
1Peter 3:15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
What’s the point of being a christian if you can’t do this? If you can’t show by your life that you have a hope, then why, even nominally be a christian? If you don’t live to glorify God then what are you here for? NOTHING ! nothing… So often I see christians who would answer in a jiffy, ‘My purpose in life is to glorify God’ , but is it? If christians really want to glorify God, then why do they steer conversations away from God, and not TO him? If your purpose is really to add weight, significance, praise to God, then why do we make crude jokes? Jokes that we know are crude. Why do we watch movies that have swearing and nudity in them? Why? I tell you why, because your real goal is either not to serve God, or you are ignorant and don’t know what you are doing. The best way to glorify God is to strive to be holy. The russian author Anton Chekhov wrote a story of about a young man. In a wager for a fortune, he decided to enter solitary confinement. After fifteen years in solitary confinement he realizes that life is about God, and leaves his confinement only five hours before his time was up, canceling the wager. The young man realized life is not about money or about entertainment. Life is about GOD, and God alone. If a christians life is about God, then why are there christians, who spend hours on facebook, stay up the entire night texting, play for hours on their iphones, read ‘christian’ romance novels, listen to music filled with this world’s philosophies, and spend their lives on themselves. The problem I see in christian teenagers lives is this, you have teens who spend hours on pleasure and seconds in prayer. Are engrossed in novels, and skim the bible. This may just sound like a rant. No! My purpose in this is to wake up real christian’s minds to the glory they do not give to God. This is in many ways a sermon to me. Solomon points this out well in ecclesiastes.
Ecclesiastes 1:2 Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.
Solomon at the end of his life realized this. Life for pleasure is vain. He spent his first few decades of life learning this truth. He was a king with money, women, and fame, he had every pleasure imagineable. All your possesions are worthless if they are not used to glorify God. All the time you spend on self pleasure is pointless if it is not used to prepare you for better service to God. If your driving factor is not God, then your driving factor is you. Is your life transcendant or descandant? For man fades away but God never does. I see purposeless and empty teens, who”s lives are hollow. Who will be bold enough to throw pleasure out and take God in? I hope YOU are. Will you succeed perfectly, no, I don’t, but I want to. I strive to glorify God, even if I often err. I have purpose, and MY purpose fullfills. Does your life have a fullfilling purpose?
with purpose
